AFTERMARKET CLUTCHES & FLYWHEELS

Making more power? Then it's time to upgrade your clutch! The stock clutch is inadequate at anything over stock power levels. There are a plethora of options to choose from, both in clutches (disc or puck, sprung or unsprung, even metal and carbon, single, twin, and even triple discs) and in lightened flywheels (super and ultra light). At FDNewbie Imports, LLC, we carry a wide variety of products from aftermarket manufacturers like HKS, Exedy, ORC, Os Giken, ACT, Clutchmasters, RPS, or Spec Clutches, to name a few!

Keep in mind that when upgrading your clutch, there are several critical parts that should be replaced as well, and others that are highly recommended:

Critical (really worth having since they are frequently damaged):
- Clutch Release Fork: N315-16-520B (upgraded OEM part)
- Wedge Collar: N315-16-415
- Wire Ring: N315-16-416
- Rear Seal: R501-17-335A
- Bearing, Release: N315-16-510

Recommended (optional but considered a good idea):
- Bearing, Pilot: N326-11-D03
- Seal, Pilot Bearing: 1881-11-404A
- Seal, Oil (Clutch Hsg): H501-17-103
- Spindle, Select Lock: R503-17-550 (upgraded OEM part)

Critical + Recommended Part Combo Kit Price: $300 Shipped

Note: The pilot bearing and seal should be replaced if the tranny makes a little bearing noise with the clutch in, but is probably best left alone otherwise. The front oil seal (N315-16-223) isn't too hard to change, but it seldom fails. The rear oil seal is definitely worth changing since it often leaks. Replace the spindle unless you have a late '94 or '95.

If you have a 5th synchro that grinds, now is the perfect time for that as well! You'll need:

- Synchro, 5th Gear: W501-17-725C
- Nut, Lock, Countershaft: M501-17-309
- 5th/Rev Clutch Hub Sleeve: R501-17-723A (often needs replaced with the synchro due to grinding)

The above information and recommendations are courtesy of Dave Geesaman.

Lastly, don't underestimate the effect a lightened flywheel can have. The engine must spend energy to rotate the flywheel. A lighter flywheel or one with more of the mass towards the center will require less energy to rotate. The effect is more hp to the wheels. Max Cooper did some research and calculated that you will get approximately 50 more hp to the wheels in 1st gear, around 16 in 2nd gear, and neglible in the higher gears. It does not "feel" like more hp, it allows more horsepower to the wheels -- less drivelines loss. http://www.maxcooper.com/rx7/parts_info/flywheel/index.htm

Of course, FDNewbie Imports, LLC can provide you with all the forementioned parts; be they genuine OEM, aftermarket, or rare JDM!
